Temporary Closure of Vernon Road

This is to allow for essential works from Tuesday 18 April to Monday 15 May for a period of 4 weeks.

During this time we will repair an old Victorian brick culvert adjacent to the Multi-Storey car park and also divert a gas main that enters EC Stoner but currently crosses under the Nexus building site.

This work is part of the two-year, £38m investment scheme to construct Nexus; a new innovation and enterprise centre that will be a high profile gateway to research and innovation at the University and UK-leading environment for collaboration and partnership.

Dates of closure: Tuesday 18 April to Monday 15 May

 

For staff, students and visitors this will mean:

  • There will be no access to the Multi-Storey car park from Woodhouse Lane.
  • Access will be possible during this time via Calverley St and Willow Terrace; over the Inner Ring Road bridge.
  • Pedestrian access will remain open.
  • Travelling from the North of the City will involve taking a slightly longer route.

 

For delivery vehicles this will mean:

  • HGV deliveries will also be affected due to the weak bridge crossing the Inner Ring Road at Calverley St / Willow Terrace, which has a weight restriction of 7.5 ton.
  • Deliveries to the Post Room (EC Stoner East) will continue as normal.

No access between Botany House and the grassed area adjacent to Great Hall 10th, 13th & 18th April

Where: 0006 Baines Wing, 0009 Botany House (13-15 Beech Grove Terrace)
When: 10/04/2017 08:00 – 17:00, 13/04/2017 12:00 – 17:00 and 18/04/2017 08:00 – 17:00

Please bear with us as we are excavating and installing cable ducts & cable pull pit outside Botany House (13-15 Beech Grove Terrace) and the reinstatement of all paving.

Services to be interrupted: No access through the pedestrian path between Botany House (13-15 Beech Grove Terrace) and the grassed area adjacent to Great Hall.

Alternative routes are available through Beech Grove Plaza adjacent to Michael Sadler Building. Wheelchair users should use the Beech Grove Plaza entrance, adjacent to Ziff building.

Effects of this interruption upon building occupants: Noise disruption due to the ground works.

Cavendish Road: Maintenance work to trees

We are notifying you of the removal of a Sorbus Tree at the corner of House Six, the School of English and tree maintenance works to the adjacent trees on the boundary of the front lawn and the Cavendish Road footpath.

Where: Corner of House Six, Cavendish Rd, School of English.

When: 11/04/2017 

Reason for works / services to be interrupted: Essential tree maintenance works.

Effects of this interruption upon building occupants: No Access through the Front Door of House Six or front lawn area. Parking and footpath restrictions along the section of Cavendish Road adjacent to the boundary wall of Houses 6-10 Cavendish Road.

Clarendon Way – Update on works taking place

Rear of Clarendon Way closure on Saturday 1 April, 5am until Sunday 2 April, 11pm

The route to the rear of the Light building will be closed during this time whilst a crane off loads major plant into the rear of the Generating Station Complex. The crane will set-up in the Light car park.

The NHS will restrict vehicle parking on Little Woodhouse Street during this weekend.

With Clarendon Way currently closed in front of the Light building this means that there will be no though route along this route.

Rear of Clarendon Way closure on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 April

Leeds City Council will be closing Clarendon Way on the above date. The road behind the Light Building will close to allow for tunnel strengthening works to take place behind the Generating Station Complex.

With Clarendon Way currently closed in front of the Light building this means that there will be no though route along this route.

Baines Wing: Potential Disruption

Where: Baines Wing

When: 25/03/2017

The School of Healthcare are currently undergoing a £1.7M refurbishment programme, part of which includes the expansion of existing clinical skills facilities. As part of this scheme it is necessary to replace an existing condensing unit, which is currently located on one of the flat roofs belonging to Baines Wing.

Services to be interrupted: Installation of a replacement condensing unit.

Effects of this interruption upon building occupants: Due to the location of the crane there will be restricted access to the rear of Baines Wing between 6.00am – 10.00am. As a precautionary measure there will be no access to the toilets on the third floor of Baines Wing between 6.00am – 10.00am. Supplementary information has been produced to show the extent of restrictions.

Engineering and Physical Sciences: Work commences on 20 March 2017

A programme of work will commence on 20 March to prepare for the £96m investment to create an integrated campus for Engineering and Physical Sciences.

 To include new homes for the Schools of Computing and Physics & Astronomy, this investment will provide specialised teaching spaces and will be the hub for our new Bragg Centre, providing facilities and expertise to support multidisciplinary materials research involving physicists, chemists, biologists and engineers. This development will also integrate world-leading research in robotics and in Information, Communication and Technology (ICT).

 Phase one of the project will see the demolition of the former Estates Building and the Old Boiler House which are located near the Old Mining building on Woodhouse Lane. Installation of hoardings may affect your current route to and from Engineering buildings.

 For staff and students this will mean:

  • Site hoardings will be in place from 20 March and may affect your current route to and from Engineering buildings.
  • There will be some noise disturbance as work gets underway.

 

 For those who make or receive deliveries this will mean:

  • Delivery vehicles to Chemistry will have to exit the same way as they enter.
  • Deliveries to Engineering from 20 March will be via Clarendon Road

Effects of this interruption upon building occupants:  Erection of scaffold, joinery repairs to window frames, some masonry repairs and redecoration of windows and front door. Presence of contractors working on scaffold. Intermittent periods of noise. Vehicular movements in car park to front of building.
