Clarendon Way closed

On 30 September, Clarendon way will be closed from 8:00am till 5:00pm. Equans, the contractor refurbishing the Generating Station Complex (GSC) will close Clarendon Way to vehicle and foot traffic for a crane lift.

Clarendon way will be closed to vehicle and foot traffic.

Restricted Access to Electronic and Electrical Engineering Building

On 12 September – 18 September, access will be restricted to the rear entrance doors/ramp of the Electronic and Electrical Engineering Building for the duration of the external/ramp remodelling works associated with the Helium Recovery Suite project.

Services to be interrupted

Limited to no access, other than in case of emergency, will be available to the aforementioned doors between the 12 and 18 September. This is due to the area been closed for excavation and remodelling works which form part of the HRS project. Access will be maintained in case of emergency however cannot be guaranteed for pedestrian use during this period.

Restricted access via the rear doors of the Electronic and Electrical Engineering Building.

On 15 August – 17 August 2022, there will be disruption to Roger Stevens, Esther Simpson, Nexus and external areas around campus. This is due to a production company and crew carrying out a filming project therefore building and corridors may be restricted for a few minutes.

Roads and Pavements Closed for Road Resurfacing Work

There will be disruption to road and pavement access during road resurfacing work on these dates;

Please read dates in conjunction with the annotated google maps image below;

  • 5 September – Leeds City Council Highways will be resurfacing part of the roadway on Clarendon Road
  • 5 – 9 September – Eric Wright Construction will be resurfacing the roadways on Lyddon Terrace, Lifton Place and Cromer Terrace.
  • Leeds City Council will be working at the top of Mount Preston Street, however, they know about all the road closures in the area and will provide essential access for the university and residents etc.
  • Refectory deliveries must use the rear deliveries entrance via. Mt. Preston Street and Cromer Road.
  • Staff and parents visiting the Nursery must use the green route via. Mt. Preston Street then onto Back Westbourne Terrace.

The resurfacing of Lyddon Terrace, Lifton Place and Cromer Terrace will be complete by 9 September and use of these roads can resume.

Please consider that there will be a lot of two way traffic on Mount Preston Street during this time. Your patience is appreciated.

General information (all dates)

  • Access on these dates will be stopped without exception,
  • Pedestrian barriers will be placed at the top of each road to prevent access,
  • All areas will be manned to prevent pedestrians from entering the working area,
  • Please close the windows to your buildings during plaining. The road surface *plaining machine (this machine scrapes off old road surfacing) is noisy and kicks up some dust (the majority of dust is supressed by the machine).

The extent of all these road closures is highlighted in red on the google map image below.

During this time, access to this part of the campus will only be available via the route highlighted in green on the google map image below. This route is the Clarendon Road approach from Woodhouse Lane and onto Mount Preston Street.

Effects of this interruption

No access to roads and pavements in the vicinity of closures. Diversion signage and barriers will be installed to prevent vehicle and pedestrian access.

Main steam supply to campus disrupted: 15 September – 17 September 2021

Due to essential urgent maintenance work on the main steam supply to campus, the steam supply from the GSC will be isolated at 12.00 on Wednesday 15th September and will be re-instated for 17.00 on Friday the 17th September.

Services to be interrupted

Mains steam supply to all buildings.

Effects of this interruption upon building occupants

Loss of all heating, processed steam and some domestic hot water to buildings without backup system. Local point source dhw heating will still be available where fitted.

No access to the Chemistry Building via St George’s Field: 9 – 16 December 2019

There will be no access to the Chemistry Building via St George’s Field from Monday 9 December – Monday 16 December. 

BAM will be removing the steel stair from St George’s Field coming down to their scaffold tunnel outside the Chemistry Building as part of the Sir William Henry Bragg Building project. Pedestrians who use St George’s Field to access the School of Chemistry will have to use an alternative route.

Vernon Road Closed: 23 – 24 November 2019

Vernon Road will be closed on Saturday 23 – Sunday 24 November. 

There will be no access to Vernon Road whilst tests are carried out on the sub-base. Access to the Multi-Storey Car Park will be from Willow Terrace.

Vernon Road will be reduced to one lane of traffic from Monday 4 – Friday 22 November

Demolition and Construction work to 28 University Road: 28 August – 8 November 2019

Date of disruption: from Wednesday 28 August to Friday 8 November 2019 

Work is being undertaken to dismantle the ground floor extension forming part of 28 University Road. This is an enabling package that will enable future landscape and access works along University Road and St George’s Field to be undertaken.

Effects of these works: There will be restricted access to the building and no access to the parking area in front of 28 University Road.
