Additional borehole drilling in Mechanical Engineering Building service yard

Last updated on 15 March 2024

Due to geological issues, borehole drilling will recommence in the car park within the service yard to the rear of the Mechanical Engineering Building from Monday 18 March to Friday 29 March.

A drilling rig, associated drilling equipment, along with large lorries will be present.

A large element of the University’s pathway to delivering Net Zero by 2030 – a principle of the Climate Plan – is the decarbonisation of heat across campus. This work is to explore the ability to deliver subsurface heat through geothermal energy.

Services to be interrupted

Loss of the car park and some noise.

Note – General day-to-day access to the service yard area will not be uninterrupted.

From Monday 18 March to Friday 29 March, there will be work in the car park within the Mechanical Engineering Service Yard. Large lorries will deliver equipment to this area during the initial site set-up. Lorries delivering fuel and water and collecting spoil will be accessing the site throughout the work which will incur some noise a day.

The car park as identified below, will be closed.
