Public Realm Improvements

Brief:
Significant improvements are being made to the public realm area on western campus.
The University community will be able to move more safely in the area as the space will be less congested with an eased flow of traffic.

The public realm improvements will significantly improve the route from Clarendon Road. It will create a seamless route from the Esther Simpson Building, past Storm Jameson through to the back of the Student Union.
The public realm improvements comprise:
Phase 1: Complete
- Newly refurbished pedestrian paths
- A fully accessible route and a ramp with accessible rails at the back of Storm Jameson
- Installation of tactile paving
- Landscaping improvements
Phase 2: October 2021 to Spring 2022
Works to take place will include the following:
- Full refurbishment of Lifton Place to create a one-way street and road system.
- Creation of one-way cycle route
- Improved paving
- Installation of planting areas
- Newly refurbished pedestrian paths
