- Work completed: Autumn 2018
- Cost: £4.6m construction of modular build
- Contractor: Modular – Extraspace
Brief: The University of Leeds Faculty of Biological Sciences occupies five buildings on the University’s main campus and requires additional space to meet demand for growth in staff and student numbers. The £4.6m construction of a new two-storey modular teaching building to the east of the Irene Manton building is part of the plan to provide this space, along with refurbishing approximately 8,500sq.m. of space within the existing buildings to a higher spatial efficiency than that achieved presently.
This investment will create a new, flexible model for open laboratory and office environments in line with contemporary best practice. In recent years, the demand for good quality research space for existing staff and new recruits has significantly increased. This refurbishment and new-build investment will ensure the Faculty of Biological Sciences can continue to drive forward and grow research income.
