- Works completed: Autumn 2025
Brief
Construction work has finished in the Roger Stevens building that created a space for the Cheney Biomedical Accelerator, a new hub designed to bring scientists and clinicians together to accelerate the translation of knowledge towards the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The development has created a centre of excellence for biomedical research on campus, making the University of Leeds part of an elite group of international institutions with such research capabilities.

More Information
Construction work included the partial internal refurbishment of levels five and six in the building – next to the Astbury Biostructure Laboratory – to create a suite of bioimaging laboratories.
Externally, there is a new entrance for the Cheney laboratories to support a wider vision to create a central courtyard within the area. This also provides a visual signpost for the laboratories and reduces heat loss from the building.
Internally, one of the original TV recording studios has been converted into a suite of six laboratories. Mechanical equipment has been removed to enable a new mezzanine level to be introduced alongside a new plant room and collaboration space.
