This innovative project forms part of the wider University Landscape strategy and is a result of a collaborative partnership between Estates and Facilities, the Sustainability Service and the Schools of Biology, Geography and Civil Engineering.
The pond has visually enhanced the landscape outside the Roger Stevens Building and the work has enhanced biodiversity, in line with the University Biodiversity Action Plan, improved natural water quality, reduced operational costs and has become an innovative space for interdisciplinary, research-led teaching.
The installation of sensors within the pool provide live data on water quality and a variety of environmental parameters, for staff and students to access for teaching and research use.
